A period of unprecedented transformation is about to dawn in the retail supply chain. New technologies such as AI, collaboration platforms and the Internet of Things (IoT), means data is becoming easier to collect, easier to interpret and easier to share. Globally, online giants like Amazon and Alibaba have built their success, in part, due to their mastery of supply chain data.
In this report, we seek to analyse the readiness of Australian retailers, transport/logistics companies and manufacturers to participate and compete in the world of data-driven supply chains.
Our research, conducted with 200 supply chain professionals around Australia, reveals an overwhelming belief that the data-driven approach will deliver tangible business benefits at every stage on the supply chain journey. Improvements in traditional supply chain metrics like inventory turnover, delivery in full on time (DIFOT) and network optimisation as well as general improvements in business profitability and competitiveness are just a few of the benefits cited by our respondents.
However, deploying the technology to implement a best practice, data-driven supply chain looms as a significant challenge. Our insights are here to help Australian businesses understand what's needed to unlock the promise of a data-driven future, including effective partner collaboration and the key technologies required to realise the full benefits of data - creating positive outcomes in cost, visibility and agility.
